APAP Hosts Secretary General Gran at Tulane Legislative Drafting Institute
SUNY/CID's Afghanistan Parliamentary Assistance Project (APAP) hosted Hon Ghulam Hassan Gran, The Secretary General of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) of Afghanistan, as he attended the 16th International Legislative Drafting Institute organized by the Tulane School of Law, from June 14 - 25 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The training brought together representatives from various parts of the world, including, Africa, North American, and South Asia and focused on all aspects of the Bill Drafting process. Lecture topics included: "Constitutional and Regulatory Drafting", "Managing a Drafting Office" and "Bilingual and Multilingual Drafting". As the Afghanistan National Assembly continues to build its professional staff capacity, the knowledge and the materials provided by the Drafting Institute and made available to MPs and staff in Afghanistan represent a valuable contribution.
Secretary General Gran has expressed his gratitude for the technical assistance provided by APAP including this recent training at the Tulane Law School. APAP has been providing assistance to Parliament in Afghanistan for 6 years. This work has included supporting the development of the Parliamentary budget office, the Afghanistan Parliamentary Institute, and ongoing assistance to parliament in the exercise of its legislative, oversight, and representation functions.
